Kaplan University Online Jobs in Questions
is kaplan university online a well respected college when i actually try to get a job after i get my degrees? or is it just as bad as university of phoenix?

CanProf replied: "Have a look at these:"

aestivalbird replied: "Kaplann seems to be somewhat more respected, so I have heard, but really it comes down to your field and your competition. If your up against grads from Harvard, nowhere looks good."

roaringmice replied: "Some employers will have issues with grads of any school that's famous for being online or for profit. Doesn't matter if it's Kaplan or U of P. You'd do better getting an online degree from a school that is famous for being "offline". Check out the online degrees from U Maryland, Penn State, UMass Amherst, Southern New Hampshire University, U Florida, Boston U, Northeastern, Worcester Polytechnic, the SUNYs (google SUNY Online), the Cal States, U Nebraska, Ball State, Tiffin U, etc. In fact, check to see if any colleges local to you offer online degrees. If they do, there will be no way for any employer to be able to tell, from your resume, that you did your degree online versus in person."

Should I try Kaplan University Online for a Bachelors/Masters or a local college for Medical Coding & Billing? I am a stay at home mom right now with no support and no income. I do already have an AA degree from a local community college and since I am getting no where with that and my years of retail job experience, I wanted another opinion besides my own. I did my research and I am willing to go online since I am already self-motivated and was home schooled during my last years of high school. The Medical Billing option is shorter and I can take evening classes if I pick up a part time job. Kaplan would take probably a couple of years. Yes, I do know I can transfer to a university and all that good stuff, but I just want an opinion between these two variables. Thanks in advance!

Michelle replied: "I would take an online course instead of attending a course at Kaplan. You can take a self paced online course and get a certificate. Then you won't have to find a sitter while you go to school and you can be done sooner that a few years. That seems like a long time. If you devote full-time hours to an online course, you could be done in 4 months. Or even a year if you do it part-time. Here is a link to a course demo of an online school. It may be worth taking this course instead."

Cindy replied: "You can try . Learn way to get in to college by let the government pay for you and get financial aid at the same time. If you pay tax why not use it :-). I have been going to school for free for many years now and i hope you do the same."

Online University- Kaplan University? Has anyone ever received a good job after going to Kaplan? Or to any other online college? They are nationally accredited.

derdaktari replied: "I went to a different online uni..... have great job now....... Kaplan, like all other online unis, places challenges on students, and sometimes it can seem like you are all alone. On the bright side, the ability to do coursework according to ones own schedule is very nice. They work on quarters, so you do have to finish up work according to a certain pace."

roaringmice replied: "Ideally, you want any school you consider to be regionally accredited, not nationally accredited. Regional accreditation is the type of accreditation that employers and grad schools look for: While some employers don't care where you went to school, as long as the place was regionally accredited; others still do not like schools that are famous for being online or for profit. You could therefore benefit by getting your online degree from an "offline", brick and mortar school, like UMass Amherst, Northeastern, U Maryland, Penn State, Drexel, U Nebraska, U Texas, and many others. In fact, check to see if any schools nearish to you offer online degrees. If they do, there is no way, from your resume, that an employer could even tell that you did it online."

Kaplan University probation officers? I am curently attending Kaplan University Online, for my BS in Criminal Justice. I was wondering if anyone or anyone you know has graduated with this degree (or something like it) and become a probation officer/parole officer... I have recently been hearing alot of neagive feedback about actually being execpted in a job b/c of my online degree. Serious answers only please...

mrsdirtyred replied: "I attend University of Phoenix for the same degree. These schools had issues a few years ago but i have heard nothing but good things about these type of schools. It depends what state you live in to meet the qualifications to be a probation/parole officer.."

IN PO replied: "I do the hiring for our department, and I can honestly say that I would give much less consideration to someone with an on-line degree than I would to someone who attended classes on campus, participated in discussions in class, was active in extra-curricular activities, and completed internships and other job-training programs not available to on-line students... While on-line degrees are certainly convenient, they pale in comparison to the experience gained by actually attending classes on a college campus..."

Have you or someone you know completed the online medical coding certificate program with Kaplan University? How long did it take you to find a job in medical coding after completing the certificate program. Did you get the CCA certification? Was the program good enough in preparing you to become certified?

Ed Atun replied: "No. It is a complete waste of time. 5 years ago anyone could get a job in medical billing or medical coding. Why,,, because the work is so boring that everyone quits in 2 weeks. And the pay is the lowest in a field that is already known for being underpaid. There were thousands of openings. Now Kaplan is "playing" on that idea that there are hundreds of jobs in coding by offering classes. The problem is that people stopped quitting after 2 weeks due to the bad economy. And doctor's offices stopped hiring and actually laid-off coders. So you will get a certificate that will not get you a job. And waste your time and money. Skip it."

tran ionmatch replied: "You may want to check in with AHIMA (American health information management association) for accredited schools."

Howard L replied: "Kaplan University is widely regarded as nothing more than a diploma mill. A degree from them is virtually worthless. There are thousands of complaints about them regarding promises of job placement that never happened. Check my link or just do a Google on Kaplan University."

should i enroll in Kaplan university if i have two jobs with tuition reimbursement? i want to enroll in to an online school.........liberal arts i do not make much live in a suburban area with no car jobs are near by and my mom drop me to them so i can not add on school and make her my mother my chauffeur can not drive one i don't have a car two in nj u have to wait six months for road test... as u can see online college would be better any suggestion.......

TM =] replied: "yeah i think the best for you..is to join into an online college because you have no ride to take you. and we relate because im going to be joining Kaplan"

I would like to know info on taking college courses online from Kaplan University or University of Phoenix? I've been going to a four year university for two years and I haven't been doing very well. So I've been thinking about taking online courses. I am 19 and live on my own with my boyfriend. So I have the burden of reality and dealing with part time jobs. I've been thinking about just doing the online courses to get an AA in Health Admin. and then get my career started with that and probably go back and get my BA. I don't know anyone who's done online college, so I would like some input please. Also, if you know anything about majoring in Health Admin and how jobs go with that. Thanks for helping!

Anne W replied: "dont go to Kaplan University or UoP. both are known to be online schools and employers dont like that. i have heard that many people throw away all of those applications and dont even look at them. what you need to do is go to a university but take classes online. many schools offer majors that you may complete online, but see employers will never know you did it online. for example, i am doing my masters (Clinical Research Administration) online with George Washington University which is a real school but no one will know that i never went to campus not even once. online classes can be difficult though, sometimes even harder than your typical classroom setting. you must almost teach yourself and stay on a very strict schedule. i have to do this since i work full time and have a mortgage to pay, many many schools are offering these types of degrees since they realize people must work. check it out, many people that are in my classes are from all over the country."

derdaktari replied: "Anne has a point, but she represents only one point of view. Many companies value online degrees because they know that it takes someone who is self-motivated to complete an online degree."

DinerDude replied: "Kaplan University and University of Phoenix are proprietary entities. That means that they are owned by corporations and operated to make a profit. Im my opinion why go to one of these schools when for a lot less you could go to a state school and receive a degree that has much more value then one from these schools. These schools are accredited but generally speaking do not get the same respect as the state colleges. If you want on-line classes you will be surprised how many the state schools now offer. Your local community colleges may offer an Associates degree in Health Administration. Search their web sites."

Do Jobs take online colleges seriously? I'm a disabled veteran and want to finish school online...? It's hard to get around in my wheelchair, So I want to get my bachelors in psychology online at Kaplan University. I have a lot of VA appointments to get to, and I'm in chronic pain, I think it would be easier but I'm afraid since it's not a real classroom or physical school people won't take it seriously.

Jess N replied: "I don't think I would go to one of those commercialized online schools. You can take online courses from very well accredited schools."

HangingChad replied: "As long as it's a good school. With some schools there's no difference on your record whether you go to class or take it online. I have found some online courses to be even more challenging than regular classes."

julvrug replied: "Check out the program thoroughly, and check the accreditation. Kaplan is normally one of the better online schools. Make sure they are accredited for your state, and cover the required material for your licensing."

Geni T replied: "As long as the school is accredited by a real accrediting agency, an online degree is just as good as a degree from a brick-and-mortar school. Kaplan University is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA). A bachelor's degree from Kaplan is a real, valid degree. I earned my bachelor's degree online (from AIU) and have had no problem with my education being taken seriously. I went on to earn a law degree from a brick-and-mortar university and am now employed. My online degree was sufficient for me to be admitted to law school and employers have been fine with it. I have had interviewers who asked about it and seemed a little taken back... but once I explain that an online degree is just as rigorous as any other degree and, in fact, requires the student to be self-motivated they seem to be rather intrigued by the idea. Anytime someone can improve him or herself through education, regardless of the medium of delivery, it is a commendable and worthwhile endeavor. Good luck on your journey!!"

Is online education courses acceptable to companies that you would like to apply for a job? Like Kaplan University, they offer online degrees. Are the companies that i would like apply for a job accept online diplomas or certificates after passing a certain course?

Colanth replied: "It depends on who's doing the hiring. I look for ability, not degrees or certifications. I've never had a piece of paper write a single line of code, but I've has many programmers with no formal education write great code. (Some people don't understand the difference between sitting in school for 4 years and learning. they figure that if they learned by sitting in school, everyone who sat in school learned, and no one can learn without sitting in school. All this proves is that they didn't learn as much as they think they did.)"

Norbert B replied: "I don't know much about Kaplan University, but I did my MBA at CalUniversity, which offers distance learning programs, admissions counselors will make your education experience smoother and easier than you ever thought possible. You can take up any of the new courses among several Masters and Doctorate programs available. Now I am working with a very reputed fiance company as a manager."
